Guest blogger- Its Sew For You!

I am so excited to have my guest blogger Melissa today!

Hello! I'm Melissa from Its Sew For You and I'm SO excited to be helping out Night Owl Crafting during her maternity leave...congrats on your sweet new baby!

With babies on the brain, and one who is teething in my house, I wanted to make a teether/soothie that she could chomp on and play with! And so the Dragonfly Soothie was born.

Supplies needed

1.  Scraps for the front and back, stuffing, something crinkly sounding (optional), ribbons and/or rick rack.
2. I started by creating my "pattern". Basically it was a kidney with a circle attached to it!
3. Next I cut out a fabric copy of the pattern. For the back I used a chenille, love the feel of chenille! This was the whole shape. To add color to the front, I cut a circle for the head, and then the body out of a coordinating print. I used the pattern and drew up to where the head starts and then just drew a straight line.

4. Fold up 1 edge of the head a quarter inch
5. Pin to the body, wrong side of head on top of right side of the body; and sew close to the edge.
6. Pin on the rick rack attenna and ribbon wings, making sure they are pointed to the inside of the body, with the cut edge of the ribbon matching up with the outside edge of the fabric.
7. Pin the back to the front ensuring that all of the ribbon and rick rack is tucked inside.

8. Sew around the outside perimeter leaving a good 2-3" opening for turning it right side. I double stitched for durability stitching a quarter inch and a 3/8" stitch. (I did two extra rows of stitching over all ribbons too!)

9.  Turn right side out, all the ribbons will pop out on their own!

10. Stuff with stuffing. I placed a piece of plastic from a wipes package in the head to give a crinkle sound.

11.  Pin closed the opening and whip stitch it closed.

And the soothie in use!

Hi!  I’m Briana from the blog, Sweet Peas and Bumblebees! 

I’m a wife to a wonderful man, mom to 2 adorable little ones, full-time teacher, crafter {when I can find time}, and newbie blogger.  While I’ve been crafting for as long as I can remember, I’ve just recently started blogging about it.  I’m seriously loving sharing my crafting ideas and have a list of crafts I want to complete a mile long!

My twin sister and I (I’m the one on the right!) both share our craft tutorials and recipes on our blog.  I hope you’ll stop by sometime to find some inspiration!

Wood Block Stacker

First you’ll need to get a 2x4.  The biggest reason I love this project is because of the price…if you don’t have a 2x4 lying around your garage they are so inexpensive to buy! 

Cut your blocks into the following lengths:

Soak:  6”

Lather:  8”

Enjoy:  6”

Then, using an electric sander, sand the edges until they are rounded and smoothed.  {You could definitely do it by hand if you’re so inclined!}

Now for the paint!  My bathroom is grey so I decided to start by painting my sanded blocks that color, knowing that the majority of the front surface would be covered with scrapbook paper.  {And, I finally found a use for those frequently purchased diaper boxes! =) }

After the paint has dried completely it’s time for Mod Podge!!  {I heart you Mod Podge!!!} 

Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the front of the block and smooth down your coordinating paper precut to the dimensions of the front of the block. 

I don’t wait for the first layer of Mod Podge to dry, I immediately coat the top of the scrapbook paper with another thick layer of Mod Podge.  {Pretty sure I’m not following the Mod Podge directions but it all turns out okay!} 

I like to see the brush strokes, so I add quite a bit!  Using an old credit card, or something similar, smooth out any excess bubbles.  As it is drying, it will seem to bubble slightly.  **Don’t stress…they seem to flatten out as it dries!**

I like the rustic look, so using sand paper, I roughed up the edges and took some of the paint off of the edges.

Now it’s time for the vinyl!  Using my Sure Cuts A Lot 2 software and my favorite font, Larger Mine, I cut out the letters using my Cricut.  {What did I ever do without you Sure Cuts A Lot!?!?!  SO much easier!}  I apologize, but I don’t have any pictures of this step.

Now stack the blocks and you’re finished!  The top of my bathroom cupboard is looking better already!  Next on my project list…spruce up that old jar!  Love it, but it’s not quite right!

I'm BACCCKKKKK!

I just spent 12 hours in the car coming home from camping! I know crazy right? Anyway I am so excited that I have a guest post today by Mandy from Sugar Bee Craft! So please show her some blogging love!

Hello Night Owl Crafting readers!!  I'm excited to be here.  I am Mandy from over on Sugar Bee Craft Edition.  I am lucky to stay home with my four kids and enjoy all the fun that comes with it.  I also (obviously!) love crafts and creating.  Here's the whole gang in our "crazy" faces at the lake a few weeks ago.

I've been blogging on my craft blog for about a year and half now, and it just keeps growing.  I feel that if I can do something, you can too, so a lot of my posts are tutorials.  I do a lot more than crafts (although plenty of those!) - - I especially love easy sewing projects, like this Shirred Pillowcase Dress.

I love making glass tile pendants and made some with pictures and even clip art using the school mascot (perfect gifts for grandmas and teachers!)

I love to feature favorite recipes of mine, like my go-to treat whenever it's potluck: Furnkies!

I also dabble in photography and photoshop elements tips - I'm not an expert, but I like to share what I know, like how to get that "blurry background" look from your pictures.

And recently I did a whole redo of our basement and created a great Playroom all centered around the wall tree that turned out perfect - I LOVE it all!!

Hi to all of you Night Owl Crafters! I am Kim from seven thirty three - - - a creative blog and I am super excited to be here today!  Leslie guest posted for me a few weeks back and now I get to return the favor!

 seven thirty three has really been growing over the last few months and I think we have a really fun, creative place for you to visit.  I feature my own crafts along with other peoples creative ideas.  And on Wednesdays we have the Sugar & Spice Girl link party and Thursdays the What are little boys made of? Boys link party, both of which are growing.  I would love to see you come link up a project or two.
I offer lots of freebies throughout the year, and I also offer blog design!  So if you are in need of a header, button or any other design element, I'm your girl!
But enought about me, let's get on with todays craft!

I am going to show you how I made these super cute cropped pants for my little man:

 

Just in time for the summer weather to hit!While going through my sons clothes weeding out the winter/too small clothes I realized that I had a huge pile of pants that were too small only because of his height.  They are in great condition and I was bummed to have to get rid of them. I considered turning them into cut-offs, which is fine and dandy but I don't only want him running around in scruffy shorts, so I came up with this! A cuffed cropped pant!  This works for boys AND girls (big ones too!).

 Here is what I did:




 

1. Fold and iron the pant to the length desired.

2.  Measure how much fabric (or twill ribbon, etc) you are going to need to create the "strap" that holds the cuff. (You want to be able to sew the inside end beneath the cuff so the stitches don't show on the outside and the outside end should be sewn  above the cuff).  Mine were 2.25"w x 7"l. (Sorry, no picture).

3.  Cut the fabric, iron in half, wrong sides together. Sew one end and done the side.  Now turn and iron flat. (If you use ribbon you can skip this step!).

4.  You want to turn the pant leg inside out and sew the raw edge of the strap to the outer seam of the pant (I cut the raw edge with pinking shears).

5.  Turn pant leg right side out and iron again to ensure the shape (no picture).




 6. Sew the other end of the strap just above the cuff.  I hand sewed it on and then sewed on the button.

7.  Sew the tops of the cuffs down on either side of the leg so it doesn't start to flop down(OK, I was a bad tutorial picture taker since I missed a few steps!).

 That's it, you're done!  Now put them on your little one (or yourself!) and snap some pictures... my little man loves the camera, but only if HE is behind it, so getting him to pose for pictures is a daunting task.
