Blog Swaps Anyone?

I had so much fun blog swapping with Kim over at Seven Thirty Three, so I have decided that I want to do more! Little Miss Skirt Tutorial

                                        Here is the tutorial that I posted over at seven thirty three!

Supply List

*sewing machine

*2 pieces of coordinating fabrics

First of all have any of you heard of TEXTURE MAGIC? Well let me tell you it is FaBuLoUs! It comes in a package that looks like this...

               Sorry about the glare, this is what happens when you craft at night (no natural sun light).

1. Measure

My daughter is a size 12 months, so you might have to adjust your measurements.  First of all measure about how long you want the skirt to be off of the waist of the little darling that you are making the skirt for. Mine falls a little below the knees!  For the bottom layer of the skirt you will add 2 inches to the bottom and 4 inches to the top for a total of six inches plus your desired length. I measured my daughter at 8 inches and added 6 to equal 14 inches for the width.  My length was 26 inches!

2. Texture Magic

I took my 1/2 yard of fabric and laid it face down.  Then take your texture magic out and lay it on top of the fabric and pin in place. It should look similar to this.

3. Sew texture magic onto fabric. Sew on top of the texture magic side. Take a rounded zigzag stitch up and down over the entire piece. I had to make my stitch length longer. It should look something like this...

4. Heat the texture magic.  The directions on the texture magic package tells you how to do this.  Take the iron directly above the texture magic and it will start to shrink. Do not apply straight onto the texture magic, just hold it above it. Isn't it amazing what it does! I am in LOVE with this stuff!

5.  Cut your texture magic piece. I cut mine 8 inches wide by 26 inches long.  This will be the top of your skirt.

6.  Fold under and pin each side that is 25 inches long. Then you will need to sew along each edge to give it a finished look.

7.  Put your top piece of the skirt off to the side and grab your other piece of fabric. We are now going to create the underneath layer of the skirt. Cut your fabric according to the size you need! Measurements on step 1.

8.  First you will need to fold bottom of the skirt 1/2 inches under and pin it.  Then sew along that piece to create the hem of the skirt. 

9.  Now for the other side. Repeat step 8, then you will need to fold down the fabric 2 inches and sew a straight line down to create your casing. It should look similar to this.

10. Attach the top of the skirt to the bottom of the skirt. Lay the textured magic piece on top of the other piece of fabric with both right sides facing out.  Then pin the top part onto the bottom piece. You will NOT need to do this to the bottom. This piece is designed to just hang down!

11.  Put the elastic through the casing. The easiest way to do this is to attach a safety pin to the end of the elastic to help pull it through.

12. Once your elastic is all the way through then bunch up your material along the elastic.  Pin the two pieces together.

13. Fold the skirt in half with right side facing right side. Make sure to pin it so that the top of the texture piece meets with the other side of the texture piece. In the picture I didn't fold it all the way, so you could see what to do.

 14. Sew along the edge to connect the skirt together.

15. Cut any loose strings and the end of the elastic.

If you want you could make a shirt to go with it and matching hair clips. I am so into pinwheels right now, that I made a pinwheel shirt and matching pinwheel hair clips to go with the skirt. May Table Runner and Link Party Info!

It isn't even May yet and I finished my monthly table runner! I am usually rushing to get it finished so that it can sit on my table for part of the month. This is by far my favorite one! I have a pattern I use to make them, but I end up always changing them. The fabric I used is from Riley Blake again! I told you that I am loving this fabric right now!

Spring Skirt!

I had some left over scraps from a table runner that I am working on, so I decided I would make another skirt. This is my second skirt this week! I think I might be developing an addiction to making skirts for my daughter. It's not like she doesn't already have enough clothes! I didn't use a pattern, so I can't link you to anything. This was very easy and if there is enough interest, then I will post a tutorial for it! Enough of the talking, here it is!

I can't wait to get some cute pictures of my daughter in it!

Sneak Peak!!!

I am like a little kid and I can't wait to show you my newest project! I am suppose to wait until next week, but I am going to give a sneak peak at what I have been working on! I wanted to make my daughter a skirt and I finally did it! I made a whole outfit and I am way proud of myself! I will be posting a tutorial on the skirt next week over at seven-thirty-three! I know I am so excited! I am also excited to introduce a new product for sewing that I am in love with, oh the projects that are going through my head! Anyway here is your sneak peak!!!

Kid's Picnic Table!

I have fallen in LOVE with Ana's projects over at Knock Off Wood! Who doesn't love her brilliant plans and masterpieces that she has created? I know I do! There are so many projects that I want to do, but I have a dilemma. I need to learn how to use a saw. My husband is worried that I will cut my fingers or hand off. Well you can't tell me that I can't do something, so my goal is by the end of the summer to have several wish list projects completed by myself! So I just sat back and let him complete our first project using Ana's plan!

I know this isn't the best picture, because I was racing with daylight to get it taken! You get the picture!
My kids are having so much fun playing with it and eating on it along with all their friends!  Thanks Ana for all your plans and time, so that I don't have to spend a fortune on the furniture that I adore!

Fabric Pinwheels with Tutorial!

I am so excited about my next project! I have had this idea for over a month and I just got around to finishing it! I was bummed when I saw that some other ladies had the same idea, but mine is still a little different. I am in LOVE with pinwheels right now! I decided that I wanted to make some to decorate for May. So this is what I came up with!

 I originally was going to make them with paper, but decide after I saw them made out of fabric on Fowlsinglefile that fabric was the way to go! I also am providing a tutorial on how I made mine! I took a lot of shortcuts! So here we go!

Supply List

Wooden dowels
Dried beans
Little bucket pails
Ribbon
Hot glue gun
Glue sticks
Assorted Fabric
Fabric mat and ruler
Rotary cutter
Buttons
Steam and Seam(double sided iron on)
Iron
Scissors

Directions

1. Take your fabric and decide what size you want your pinwheels to be. Mine were 6x6, 4x4, and 3.5x3.5.  Each pinwheel takes two pieces of different fabric.  I cut 6 pieces of fabric for each size to equal 9 pinwheels!

 2. Cut your steam and seam the same sizes as your material! You will need 9 pieces total.

3. Put the steam and seam between both pieces of material and iron together!
4. Fold one corner to the corner across from it forming a triangle.

5. Take your scissors and cut almost to the middle. Fold the square the opposite way to form a triangle and cut that almost to the middle as well!

6. Fold on corner in from each of the four pieces and hot glue each piece down as you go.

7. After you have all your pieces glued to the center then hot glue a button in the center to hide the tips of the material.

8. Put your pinwheel to the side and grab you dowels! I found mine in the cake section at Wal Mart!

9. I left 3 of my dowels the size they came and the cut down the other 6 so that the pinwheels were different sizes.
10. Grab your ribbon and put a dab of glue at one end of the dowel. Then put the end of your ribbon on the glue and proceed to wrap the ribbon around the dowel to the other end! At the end cut your ribbon and put another dab of glue to hold the ribbon together!

11. You are almost finished! Grab your pinwheel and hot glue it to your ribbon dowel! You now have your pinwheel.
12. Pour your beans into a little bucket or pail and place your pinwheels into them. I found my buckets/pails at the dollar tree!
